CLAY ART:
Working in clay, an artist creates a form that is no longer flat like a painting but occupies space in three dimensions. A clay artist's choice of materials and techniques is very important, for it has a crucial effect on the finished product. Clay mediums can include ceramics, pottery, porcelain, majolica, earthenware, terra cotta and raku. Art from clay is as varied as the medium, encompassing a range of objects from carved masks, fanciful teapots, and magical deities to artistic tableware and decorative urns. At Galleria Tempest you can laugh at Tom Edwards Wally Ware ceramic plates, gaze in awe at one of Heidi Murry's delicate sculptural masks and feel the artist hand when you touch one of Nicholas Bernard's classically formed oil jugs.
